West Surrey Council Elections - Know your facts
Who Runs What Now:
Waverley Borough Council is responsible for local services including Bin collection - but not the recycling centres, burials and cremations, Council housing, parks and sports grounds, planning permission and parking in car parks - but not street parking.
Waverley Borough Council is run by the Liberal Democrats in alliance with the Greens, so the above issues are their responsibility.
Surrey County Council is responsible for local services including Roads and their maintenance - this is where the responsibility for potholes falls - bus services, education (child, adult and special needs), adult and child social care, drains, footpaths and on-street parking.
Surrey County Council is run by the Conservatives, so the above issues are their responsibility.
(Town and Parish Councils are responsible for community events, and often local facilities like public toilets and bus shelters. These are not affected by the local government reorganisation).
Both Waverley Borough Council and Surrey County Council will be scrapped in May 2027 and replaced with a new West Surrey County Council which will have responsibility for ALL the above.
The elections in May this year are for this new council, even though it will not come into existence for another year.
Farnham and Bordon Labour believes that neither the Conservatives nor the LibDems are running effective and efficient councils, so it is important that Labour has good representation on the new council.
